Firefighter Suffers Serious Life-Threatening Exposure at Major Chemical Fire
Serious questions must be asked of Fire Rescue Victoria leadership after a firefighter suffered life-threatening injuries at last month’s Viva Refinery incident.
It is an indictment on FRV Commissioner Gavin Freemans leadership and despite firefighters repeated warnings about unsafe vehicles, unsafe work practices, unsafe radios and unsafe personal protective equipment that all went ignored or dismissed, yet now we have a firefighter seriously injured potentially with life changing injuries.

Crews immediately got to work, rapidly knocking down the fire before it spread any further and beginning a search of the home. Thankfully, little Zoe was found hiding under a bed and safely carried outside into the fresh air. After a quick check over by firefighters, Zoe was reunited with her relieved family.
