Work bans

FRV only functions because of workers like you. Work bans make that point clear.

About work bans

Work bans disrupt FRV’s operations in targeted ways while keeping you at work and keeping your pay intact. They are an ongoing form of protected industrial action where union members refuse to perform specific, agreed-upon tasks or to follow certain instructions.

This might look like doing your job in different ways, refusing specific tasks, or not doing things at certain times. Work bans are designed to compel an employer to negotiate and reach a fair agreement in a reasonable time.

UFU members have voted to approve each ban listed on this page, and members are legally entitled to engage in these bans. FRV cannot punish you for engaging in these bans. If you have any questions about work bans, please get in touch with the UFU.

We have a growing library of downloadable and printable materials to show your support for a fair deal. This includes printable posters about work bans and protected industrial action. For materials listing all bans, see here instead.

You need to know your rights before you can exercise them. To support members, we’re compiling information about your rights, the bargaining process, and protected action here.

TRANCHE 1

These ongoing actions are approved under the “Tranche 1” work bans (the first set of bans), which all commenced by 11 November 2022.

  1. A ban on attendance at any meeting convened by the FRV unless in relation to enterprise bargaining negotiation meeting.
  2. A ban on complying with a direction to remove any out of office on FRV email accounts which may include union and industrial campaign messages and materials.
  3. A ban on processing reimbursements to FRV Executive Leadership Team members.
  4. Action in the form of wearing, distributing and posting union campaign material such as t-shirts, badges, written communications and stickers in support of the proposed enterprise agreement

These four bans are included in the Tranche 1 set of bans, which includes 22 bans in total. Implementation advice, as well as specific commencement dates, should be viewed on the UFU Intranet.

The UFU intranet is only available to UFU members. Can’t log in? Contact the UFU office.

If you have any questions or doubts about an action, do not engage in it. Do not engage in any action that would endanger the life, personal safety or health or welfare of anyone.

These ongoing actions are approved under the “Tranche 2” work bans (the second set of bans), which commenced by 2 November 2024.

WE'RE HERE TO inform, support & PRotect you.

If you need more information, just let us know.

Unions have fought for decades to defend your right to seek fair pay and fair conditions, and to ensure your job security. Under the Fair Work Act, there are legislated general protections that protect you from FRV taking any detrimental action against you. Therefore, you cannot be punished for joining your union or getting involved in protected industrial action. The UFU will use all avenues to defend your legal rights and your employment.

If you have any concerns about how you are being treated (or might be treated) if you get involved, let us know.
