Statement from United Firefighters Union – Victoria Branch

The United Firefighters Union (Vic) welcomes the State Government’s appointment of the Fire Service Commissioner for Fire Rescue Victoria.

The Union looks forward to working productively with the Government and the new Commissioner to implement the State’s new fire service, Fire Rescue Victoria.

The establishment of Fire Rescue Victoria is the culmination of years of Parliamentary Inquiries, Coroner’s Inquests, and a Royal Commission. The matters raised in these official forums shaped Fire Rescue Victoria as a new, professional fire service that will improve the protection of the community, and the safety of both volunteer and career firefighters.

The UFU acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land, and we pay our respect to their Elders, past and present.

The UFU supports the call of First Nations peoples for a Voice to Parliament to be enshrined in the Constitution.
