NW Victoria left without Vital Rescue Services

UFU Victoria expresses its concern that the safety of workers and the community at large in NW Vic are being placed at risk due to the sole Technical Rescue Truck in NW Vic (FS68 – Lucas) being broken down for over 3 weeks; and in its place sits a Ute with barely half the capacity of what its replacing.

This Ute has no capacity for Confined Space Rescue or Trench Rescue, meaning the closest help for these emergencies is found in Warrnambool or Richmond!

The area at risk includes the surrounds of Bendigo, the Premiers own electorate.

Firefighters take protecting the safety of our community seriously and working with outdated and underfunded resources is simply not good enough.

These pictures show the crews changing over what gear they can, the amount of the gear being abandoned on the broken-down truck is simply not good enough.

The UFU acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land, and we pay our respect to their Elders, past and present.

The UFU supports the call of First Nations peoples for a Voice to Parliament to be enshrined in the Constitution.
