FRV often describes itself as a modern fire and rescue service, built for today’s risks and demands. But when you talk to firefighters on the ground, that picture doesn’t quite match what they’re seeing.

Firefighters on the ground share what they’re seeing and their concerns about the ageing trucks they’re still relying on every day. At stations like Melton, Caroline Springs, and West Melbourne, some appliances are now 15 to 20 years old and well past what most would consider “modern” emergency equipment.

While the organisation talks about modernisation, the reality for crews is often old and increasingly unreliable vehicles still in frontline service. This video brings those voices together from the station floor.
