In 2018, the UFU achieved the Income Protection Reimbursement Allowance for
UFU Operational Members who were then employed by the MFB and CFA. The
same entitlement continued upon commencement of Fire Rescue Victoria in 2020.
In 2024 FRV began a campaign to wind back the benefits that were available to
members and their dependants under the scheme then In place; in October 2025
FRV refused to reimburse members any longer for contributions to the scheme, and
in 2026 the scheme came to an end when FRV refused to agree to an extension of
the scheme in any form or to any modified form of the scheme. There is now no
agreed income protection scheme in place contrary to what the members’ Enterprise
Agreement requires.
The UFU remains committed to re-instating a union-member-friendly,
accessible and high-performing income protection scheme for FRV
Operational Members. We’ve achieved this once before and we expect to
achieve this again.
Any further updates will be provided to all UFU Members first by way of UFU Bulletin
and later via this webpage.
Important note about unilateral employer scheme (Allianz)
On 8 March 2026, FRV implemented its own income protection scheme with Allianz
via its broker AON.
This is not an agreed scheme. This is not a union-endorsed scheme. There is no
visibility by the UFU over the operation of this scheme. It is unclear exactly where
your personal information, your claims information and other private information is
stored and/or how it is shared between the employer, the insurer and the Claims
Management Provider (if any exists).
