Victorian UFU Secretary Peter Marshall says firefighters are now campaigning against Premier Jacinta Allan in her own seat, claiming the state’s Labor leader has “deserted the fire service”.
As Victoria heads towards the November election, pressure is mounting on the Allan Government over ongoing concerns surrounding emergency response capability, staffing shortages and fire service resources across the state.
“At the end of the day, you have to ask the question — what makes firefighters give up their own time to go out and tell the public they believe this government is not providing them with the equipment and resources needed to properly protect the community?”
The United Firefighters Union says the campaign reflects growing frustration among frontline firefighters who believe the fire service is broken under the Allan Government.
