Fire Station 87 in Dandenong has taken delivery of a new Heavy Rescue truck this week — a critical addition that will respond to serious vehicle accidents with the specialist equipment needed to free trapped patients quickly and safely.

Every minute matters at these incidents. Rapid rescue means getting people to hospital sooner and giving them the best possible chance of recovery.

This new truck replaces a vehicle that should have been off the road nearly nine years ago. While this is a step forward in addressing the fire truck crisis, the reality remains — around 66% of Fire Rescue Victoria’s fleet is still past its service life. There is much more work to be done.

UFU Vic have been advocating for modern, fit for purpose fire trucks like this and plays a key role in the design process — ensuring firefighters have the equipment they need and the community gets the highest standard of emergency response.

Congratulations to the firefighters at Fire Station 87 Dandenong — your community is in safe hands.
