The United Firefighters Union (UFU) condemns the threat made against the Minister for Emergency Services, Paul Edbrooke, and calls on Victoria Police to investigate it fully.
UFU Secretary Peter Marshall said threats and intimidation have no place in Victorian politics, or our society.
“Firefighters spend every shift protecting life and property. Threatening anyone, including a Minister we strongly disagree with, is the opposite of everything this union stands for. I condemn it without qualification.”
Mr Marshall said the union will cooperate fully with police, and urged anyone with information to contact Victoria Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,
“Whoever did this does not speak or act for firefighters or for this union. I want police to find the person responsible. “On Friday I said the Premier and the Minister were ‘in the gun’.
I meant at the ballot box and anyone there, or seeing the video, would know that.” Mr Marshall said the union’s dispute with the Carroll Government is about its decisions on firefighter safety,
“The Government is seeking to weaken guaranteed minimum staffing and the protections around rostering, classifications, and consultation. Those protections decide how many firefighters arrive when Victorians call triple zero. This is a safety issue as we are heading into the fire season.
“That is why we will keep asking Victorians to put Labor last on 28 November. We will make that case with votes, never with threats.”
