Outstanding work by UFU members from Fire Station 63 Geelong City, whose actions during a critical Emergency Medical Response (EMR) incident have been formally recognised by Ambulance Victoria.

Senior Station Officer McCormack, Leading Firefighter Jones, Leading Firefighter Madden and Firefighter Goss were first on scene to a cardiac arrest in a difficult residential setting, immediately getting to work delivering CPR, airway management and defibrillation before paramedics arrived.

But this job required far more than medical response alone.

Firefighters also used their technical rope rescue skills to safely extricate the patient from an upstairs location, ensuring treatment could continue without interruption while working side by side with Ambulance Victoria crews.

This incident is another example of the vital role professional firefighters play in EMR. Highly trained firefighters are often first on scene, bringing not only lifesaving medical capability, but the rescue skills, teamwork and calm decision making needed in complex emergencies where every second matters.

A well deserved recognition for these members and a strong example of the professionalism UFU members bring to the Victorian community every day.
