Melbourne is preparing for one of the biggest weekends on its calendar.
With the Moomba Festival, the opening round of the Australian Football League (AFL) season, and the Australian Grand Prix all happening at once, hundreds of thousands of people will pour into the city.
The Grand Prix alone is expected to draw crowds of up to 465,000 people across the event.
Yet despite the scale of these gatherings, this year there will be just one fire truck stationed inside the Grand Prix circuit — down from three in previous years.
At a time when Melbourne is at its busiest, questions are being asked about whether emergency resourcing is keeping pace with the size and complexity of major events
