At 5am tomorrow, the new West Gate Tunnels will open to the public.
Yet firefighters have NOT been given the opportunity to conduct emergency scenario training, have received NO proper familiarisation, and have been provided NO clear information on where to go or what to do when something goes wrong.
Critically, there are also serious unanswered questions about whether firefighter radios will even work deep inside the tunnels during an emergency.
This is about public safety.
When firefighters aren’t trained, informed, or properly equipped, Victorians are put at risk.
Firefighters should never be sent into a high-risk environment without training, planning, and reliable communications — and the Victorian community deserves better than crossed fingers and hope.
The Allan Government opening major infrastructure without properly preparing emergency responders puts everyone at risk.
