Political Action

“Most fire fighters didn’t sign up for the job to be involved in politics. But, every decision made about our work – safety, pay and benefits, union rights, retirement security, and more – is made by someone who was elected or appointed by someone elected…

There are many ways you can engage in politics to shift from a side player to a respected contributor. Having political knowledge and skills will make your support a must-have and give you more access to those decision-makers.” – International Association of Firefighters

WHAT IS A POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE?

UFUPAC supports or opposes campaigns and candidates at all levels of Government, with the aim of building a better workplace for its members.

UFUPAC is a critical resource in fights for enterprise bargaining, workplace conditions, safe uniform and equipment, health & safety, income protection, superannuation, and more.

WHY UFUPAC?

Every decision about your job is influenced by someone who is either elected or appointed.

UFUPAC helps career firefighters build relationships with decision makers and communicate with the voters who elect them.

As long as politicians are involved in our ability to fight fire, firefighters must be involved in politics. Being part of UFUPAC builds a more powerful, effective union.

WHAT DOES UFUPAC HELP US FIGHT FOR?

UFUPAC helps us maintain and improve workplace conditions that are important for fighters such as Enterprise Bargaining, safe crewing levels, workplace conditions, safe uniform and equipment superannuation, income protection, presumptive rights legislation, and a safe and healthy environment – on and off the job.

I’M NOT INTO POLITICS. WHY SHOULD I GET INVOLVED?

UFUPAC is not just about politics – it is about your job, your family and our union. Getting involved in UFUPAC is an easy way to influence those who make decisions that impact your job. It also builds a stronger Union that will continue to maintain and improve conditions in the workplace.
