It is becoming clear that the new Emergency Services Tax is nothing more than a tax grab to retire State Debt.
Only now, after Community outrage, are Labor MP’s expressing their ‘concern’ the tax will not go where Jacinta Allan and Jaclyn Symes claims:
On May 9, Premier Jacinta Allan, in relation to the Emergency Services Tax, stated:
“We need to ensure we’re investing in our fire and emergency services and every dollar through the fire and emergency services volunteer fund will be invested in our emergency services.” (ABC News Online)
Yet on May 21, AFTER the tax passed Parliament, Labor Party Backbencher, Juliana Addison admitted:
“We’re going to legislate to make it clear that every single dollar collected from the levy must be spent on emergency service.” (The Courier, Ballarat)
Despite voting for it, only now have Labor Backbenchers comprehend the impact and implications of this new tax. It was rushed through Parliament in the dead of night.
If it were going where Jacinta Allan claims, why do we need more legislation?
We need a Moratorium and Public Inquiry into this Tax and its impact on every single Victorian NOW!
