In other states, this type of cancer is automatically covered. But in Victoria, firefighters are forced to fight for every claim.

The UFU has been sounding the alarm: The presumptive legislation in Victoria is outdated. It must be updated to protect those who protect Victorians.

Heather Hughes’ husband fought toxic fires for decades. But when he died of cancer WorkSafe rejected her dependency claim, despite recognising it as an occupational illness.
