Congratulations to Leading Firefighters Phil Constantinou and Albert “Alby” Perini on their long and distinguished careers, each spanning more than four decades with Fire Rescue Victoria.

The pair were recognised during a special ceremony at Fire Station 31 in Glen Waverley, celebrating a combined 94 years of commitment to protecting the community.

Reflecting on 47 years of service, Phil said the time has flown.
“It’s been a fantastic career. We’re busier than we’ve ever been, but the satisfaction you get from helping the community is second to none.”

With a strong focus on health and fitness, Phil has naturally stepped into a mentoring role, guiding the next generation of firefighters. “As you get older, you realise health is the most important thing. I’m passionate about setting a good example for younger people coming through — not just in how they work, but how they live.”

For Alby, the people he’s worked alongside stand out as the greatest highlight of his career, along with the unpredictability of the job. “To be part of some significant fires and incidents — they’re as much a highlight as they are a lowlight. It’s about doing the best you can and leaving things better than you found them.”

After a remarkable career defined by dedication and calm professionalism, Alby has now begun his well-earned retirement and is looking forward to travelling with his wife, Yvonne, and spending more time with his children and grandchildren.

Congratulations to Phil and Alby on an outstanding achievement — and thank you both for your service.
