Over 18 months after a devastating cyberattack, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters are still waiting for answers. The attack, which occurred in December 2022, is still forcing firefighters and corporate staff to rely on manual processes for rostering, response and day to day business.

Despite all of this, FRV has chosen to prioritize a $2000-a-head conference, the AFAC 2024 convention, where FRV Chief Information Officer, Chris Moon, will present a session on “Responding to a cyber attack in emergency services: The first 48 hours.”

This decision has angered firefighters, who feel they deserve to know what happened to their personal data and how FRV is responding.

The United Firefighters Union has slammed FRV for ignoring their request for a meeting this affected to provide updates.

Union Secretary Peter Marshall expressed frustration, saying, “Firefighters and FRV employees have been waiting for more than a year and a half to find out what happened, whose information was exposed, where it has gone, and how this was allowed to happen.”

It’s time for FRV to prioritize transparency and accountability. Firefighters deserve to know the truth about the cyberattack and how it will impact their future.
