Eight years after a new fire station was promised for Armstrong Creek, firefighters and residents are still waiting for the facility to become a reality.
A recent 9 News report highlighted the situation facing one of Victoria’s fastest-growing communities, where a fire truck is currently being housed behind temporary fencing on a vacant block rather than at a permanent fire station.
Funding for the station was originally announced in 2018, but a series of delays have seen the project repeatedly pushed back. While firefighters continue to serve the community, concerns remain about the lack of permanent emergency services infrastructure to support the area’s rapid population growth.
The Geelong Mayor has rejected claims that council processes are responsible for the delays, while authorities have pointed to planning, utility and site access issues as contributing factors.
For local firefighters and residents, however, the key issue remains unchanged: eight years after the promise was made, Armstrong Creek is still waiting for the fire station its growing community needs.
